Cadillac Auto Recalls and Defects
The Cadillac Motor Car Division (Cadillac) is a division of American automaker General Motors Corporation (GM). GM is the largest auto manufacturer in the United States. Cadillac focuses on manufacturing and distributing luxury vehicles. Even before GM’s acquisition, and indeed prior to GM’s founding, Cadillac was already an established name in the luxury vehicle field.
Despite Cadillac’s long history, their vehicles are just as prone to being delivered into the market with severe, dangerous defects. Over the past few years, Cadillac has issued several recalls pertaining to defective electronic systems, seatbelts, fuel pumps, airbags, and other features. Any one of these defects has the potential to cause a serious or fatal accident.
Check your vehicle identification number on the Cadillac website or the NHTSA website to determine if your Cadillac is or was subject to a recall. If you bought or leased a Cadillac only to then discover a serious defect, if your Cadillac is subject to a recall, or if you were injured due to a defective Cadillac or other GM vehicle, you have important legal rights. 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV: Fuel Pump Defect
GM recently recalled a number of 2021 Cadillac Escalades and Escalade ESVs in connection with a malfunctioning fuel pump. The fuel pump’s control module was defectively designed, which can cause the fuel pump to fail or operate intermittently. Interruption of fuel flow to the engine can cause the vehicle to stall unexpectedly, creating the risk of an accident while the vehicle is in use.
2021-2022 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV: Seatbelt Malfunction
GM recently issued a recall covering certain model year 2021-2022 Cadillac Escalades and Escalade ESVs, in addition to several Chevrolet and GMC vehicle lines. The recall pertains to the seatbelts installed in the third row of the covered vehicles. Those seatbelts are equipped with a faulty rivet, responsible for retaining the buckle to the mounting bracket. A deformed rivet can fail to properly restrain a passenger, raising the risk of serious injury should there be an accident. Given that third-row seats usually house children, the defect is especially concerning.
2010-2016 Cadillac SRX: Rear Suspension Defect
Cadillac recently recalled almost 400,000 vehicles, including the Cadillac SRX model years 2010-2016, due to a rear suspension defect. The vehicles are equipped with a rear suspension toe link adjuster that might not be fastened properly and which could separate during use. If the toe link separates, the driver could lose control of the vehicle, creating a serious crash risk.
2007-2011 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT: Airbag Malfunction
In 2021, GM issued a massive recall of more than 2.6 million vehicles running the gamut of their vehicle lines and models. The recall included model years 2007-2011 of the Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and Escalade EXT.
One of the largest recalls in recent history, the effort concerned vehicles built with certain airbags that were discovered to be severely defective. Airbag inflators containing phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant carry a risk of exploding due to propellant degradation known to occur after exposure to high temperatures and high humidity. Airbag defects run the risk of failing in the event of an accident, rendering useless an important survival device. Additionally, exploded airbags can send shards of metal flying into the driver and other occupants, potentially causing serious injury and even causing a car crash.
Model year 2020-2022 Cadillac CT4 and CT5 vehicles were also recalled in connection with faulty airbag deployment.
